Giant wave. Full immersion in the water is an original Contemporary Artwork realized by the Italian artist Sabrina Pugliese (b. 1990). Original oil painting on canvas. Hand-signed on the lower right corner: Sabrina Pugliese. Hand-signed, titled, and dated on the back too. Total dimensions: 60x100 cm. Mint conditions. This artwork was born during the pandemic. It shows the sea, my greatest source of inspiration and dearest friend. I grew up in a pretty coastal village and when I was a little girl, I used to ride my bike near the seaside, alone or with some friends, especially in wintertime when the secluded beach became my favourite comfort zone. This suggestive landscape represents to me a powerful sense of freedom and independence. During the last quarantine, it was quite impossible to meet up with friends but that loneliness meant a lot to me since I had the chance to look within and know myself better. Till now, I have always done things by the book: I went to university and I got a job, but talking about art, I feel completely free to express myself. Actually, this artwork marks a turning point to explore my deepest thoughts and so my real skills. At this stage of my life, I am feeling that it is time to go beyond the figurative art in order to find my own interpretation of reality. This need also arises as a way to express my true identity in a consumerist society. BIOGRAPHY Sabrina Pugliese was born on April 2nd, 1990 in a small village in the Southern Italy, Nova Siri. Since she was a child, she was interested in arts in their different forms: singing, playing piano and visual arts. She graduated in Modern Literature at the University of Urbino, in the heart of the Italian Renaissance, the birthplace of Raffaello Sanzio. She didn't have the chance to attend artistic high school because it was too far from home. So, after the graduation, she began to devote herself to her passions: painting, exclusively oil on canvas. She has started painting as a self-trained painter to promote and improve her territory, Basilicata, also named Lucania. Nowadays, she expanded her project because she wants to spread Mediterranean holidays’ colours, sounds and perfumes, with the image of the sea, all over the world. She knows that painting can give voice to landscapes of the soul through seascapes. She lived for ten years away from home to study and work and, in this way, she created a stronger relationship with her origins. During the pandemic, she has decided to return to Basilicata to offer her small contribution to the Southern of Italy. She has participated in several national and international exhibitions including: • Collective exhibition with two painters: Giulio Orioli e Nino Oriolo for “Night of the brigands” 2019, in Nova Siri Centre (MT) thank to collaboration of Maria De Lorenzo, art historian, August 12th, 2019. • Selected for Pitturiamo Prize in New York, exhibition in White Space Chelsea (October 2020 but postponed event). Publication on Art Now magazine, December 2019. • Selected for “Annuario of Artistis 2020” published by Mondadori. • Participation to “Art Leader” project of Angelo Crespi, art market expert. • Selected and published by Loreta Larkina, gallery owner of “Art studio” in Venice for video- exhibition in San Pietersburg, April 2021. • Selected for Barcelona Contemporary art Fair 2021 (3-20 june) organized by Itsliquid Group.
