An original Herbert Terry No. 1209 Anglepoise desk lamp, manufactured in England by Herbert Terry & Sons Ltd., Redditch, circa 1955–1965.
One of Britain's most celebrated industrial lighting designs, the No. 1209 combines elegant engineering with exceptional functionality. This authentic example retains its original articulated four-spring balancing mechanism, allowing effortless adjustment while maintaining perfect balance in virtually any position.
The arm is stamped "THE ANGLEPOISE PATENT – MADE IN ENGLAND BY HERBERT TERRY & SONS LTD REDDITCH", confirming its manufacture by Herbert Terry, the original producer of the iconic Anglepoise lamp.
Finished with a satin aluminium shade, chrome tubular arms and its original heavy cast weighted base, the lamp embodies the clean, purposeful aesthetic of mid-century British industrial design. It has been sympathetically rewired with a modern twisted black flex and remains fully functional, making it equally suited to everyday use or display as a collectible design classic.
