Very nice, mid-century, Scandinavian style, vintage secretary/ storage unit on tapered legs, from the early 1950s.
Made of plywood with a golden oak-colored finish, this piece has a beautiful design, showcasing in the front, a fully functional top door with its original key (see photos), that has little bit of a wiggle to it, but is fully functional, when opening and closing the door (minuscule/slight resistance when almost closed, that should diminish with regular usage.)
On top of the piece itself, there is a first shelf, measuring at W:65 cm x D:21 cm.
Once the door is fully opened, it becomes a desk, revealing the original, reddish, burgundy-colored, vinyl surface mat (the label from the actual vinyl manufacturer, is still present, and located inside, directly under the top of the piece.) There is a small tear, (see photo) and a few old marks, traces of age and previous usage (see photos), but nothing that interferes with the overall appearance, or functionality.
-The space/height between the door when opened and the floor, measures at 76 cm.
- The depth of the overall piece when the door is opened, measures at 74 cm
The back of the interior storage space above the door, showcases 8 storage compartments, 2 of them, with some old marks of usage (see photos.)
- Each of the 2 compartments on the far left and far right, measure at H:17.5 cm x W:23 cm x D:16 cm.
- The 3, central compartments, measure at H:11 cm x W:21 cm x D:16 cm.
- The bottom compartment measures at H:10 cm x W:69 cm x D:23 cm.
Directly beneath the door/desk, there is a shelf measuring at
H:21.5 cm x W:69 cm x D:27 cm.
Finally, below the lower shelf, there is an additional storage space with 2 sliding doors, that both function properly, each with their original, brass-colored handles (see photos.) The interior measurements of this space are: H:21 cm x W:69 cm x D:27 cm.
The 2 side panels of the piece, are simply elegant and beautiful, with a depth measuring from the top at 22.5 cm, that widens at the bottom, to a depth of 35 cm.
The piece is in overall, very good, original, vintage condition with some light marks and signs of age and previous usage commensurate with time, and a nice patina of time, on the overall structure, door, shelves, handles and legs (see photos.) Resting on well designed, tapered legs, it is stable and solid.
