Mid-Century Modern Teak Highboard by Johannes Andersen

Circa 1969

Here we have a stunning Scandinavian teak highboard 'hutch' sideboard designed by Johannes Andersen and manufactured by Oy Wilh. Schauman Finland in the 1960s.
This wonderful piece in gorgeous warm Teak wood showcases a fabulous wood grain and multiple storage options; a fabulously versatile piece that can be used as a drinks cabinet, secretaire, chest of drawers, sideboard.

Why buy a new sideboard, when you can save money and help the environment by buying a vintage item that oozes quality and appeal .....Ideal for use in a dining room or in a lounge with a selection of mid-century smalls.

There are two large sliding doors to the top - left revealing three pull-out drawers with wonderful dovetail joints and one adjustable shelf, lined with Green felt. Top right two internal selves, The middle has two sliding tambour doors with two side small post sections, great for letters, and one shelf, and at the center that pulls out for writing letters, further down you have two more large storage cupboards.

Very rare and hard to find.

About the Creator

Johannes Andersen

While information on designer Johannes Andersen is limited and difficult to verify, it is believed that he was born in 1903 in Aarhus, Denmark, and that he initially apprenticed as a cabinetmaker. He went on to work for many years in a number of workshops before opening his own architectural and furniture workshop in the 1930s.

Andersen’s designs span seating, tables, and storage in well-crafted materials, such as rosewood and teak. His career paralleled the midcentury’s growing appreciation for Danish furniture designs, and he attracted international attention—particularly for coffee tables like the highly sculptural Smile Table.

Andersen worked steadily for his own firm—as well as Swedish, Danish, and Norwegian companies such as Trensum, CFC Silkeborg, Bramin, and Uldum Møbelfabrik—until he closed his shop in his eighties. He passed away in 1991.
