About This Piece

Vintage Design

Stunning set of 4 Medea chairs by Vittorio Nobili, an icon of Italian design from the 1950s.

Designed in 1955 and produced by the historic Tagliabue company, these chairs embody the elegance and innovation that characterized post-war design.

Their particularity lies in the refined processing of curved wood, a technique that allows for obtaining harmonious and light shapes, while enhancing the resistance of the material.

Made of beech plywood with a fine mahogany veneer, the Medea have a monocoque seat with sinuous and welcoming lines. A distinctive detail is the central perforation, not only an aesthetic element, but also a functional one, as it contributes to the flexibility of the structure and the comfort of the user.

The base is made up of thin legs in black lacquered metal, which give a light and elegant appearance while ensuring stability and sturdiness.

The style of the Medea chair fits perfectly into the context of mid-century modern, a movement that revolutionized the furnishings of the time with its essential and innovative approach.

The combination of the warmth of the wood and the lightness of the metal structure creates a perfect aesthetic balance, making these chairs ideal for sophisticated and timeless environments.

This attention to detail and functionality was recognized in 1956 with the awarding of the prestigious Compasso d'Oro award, one of the most important awards in the world of design.

Even today, the Medea are highly sought after by collectors and vintage furniture enthusiasts and have recently returned to production reissued by Dimore Studio.

Their craftsmanship and timeless elegance make them pieces of great value, both for those who want to enrich their home with an iconic design object and for those who consider them a real investment.

Their timeless charm makes them perfect for different contexts, from residential interiors to the most exclusive environments, confirming their role as a masterpiece of Italian design.

The chairs are in excellent overall condition with some small signs of wear as shown in the photographs given that they are more than 70 years old.
