“Angeli e Demoni” is a powerful and thought-provoking conceptual artwork by the late Italian master Massimo D’Orta (1950–2022), known for his work as chief restorer at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples and as the official copyist of Caravaggio, with his reproduction of The Deposition of Christ published in the Corriere della Sera.
This striking mixed media on canvas features a central trompe-l’œil illusion — a classical scene depicting an elder man and a young figure — seemingly pinned over a raw, expressive background. The surface is filled with graffiti-style gestures, symbolic outlines of male and female forms, Italian handwritten texts, and deep existential references.
The work explores timeless oppositions: youth and age, body and soul, love and instinct, sacred and profane. The human body appears as a space of emotion, sensuality, motherhood, and truth. At its core, the message “Tutto Qui!” (“It’s All Here!”) anchors the viewer in the flesh-and-spirit duality of life.
A unique piece, dated and signed on the back, created in 2006. Perfect as a statement piece in modern, eclectic, or conceptual interiors.
