About This Piece

Vintage Design

Johannes Andersen is synonymous with mid-century modern design, elevating Scandinavian modernism with his focus on practicality and space conservation, using luxurious woods such as teak, mahogany, and rosewood. After completing his apprenticeship as a cabinetmaker, he worked for several furniture manufacturers before opening his own workshop, where he developed a distinctive style inspired by Danish functionalism and human-centered design. After World War II, he capitalized on the post-war consumer boom and the growing interest in Scandinavian design, selling his elegant furniture to international markets and collaborating with other manufacturers. Drawn to organic forms and fluid lines, he transformed traditional furniture into pieces with imaginative curves, most notably with his Capri line for Trensum and the Allegra bar stool.
