About This Piece

An original work created in Indian ink by Hans Beers, a Dutch artist trained at the St. Joost Academy in Breda and active in Antwerp since the 1970s. This drawing, of great stylistic rarity in his output, depicts a complex symbolic scene.
At the center of the composition stands the shape of an atomic skull, sculpted by stylized clouds evoking an explosion. At the bottom of the image, two nude female bodies, lying down, seem to emerge or sink into dense vegetation, as if absorbed by nature or given over to the cycle of vanitas.
Each line is executed with extreme precision; the quality of the gesture evokes an absolute mastery of the medium. This is a work of striking graphic power. ________________________________________
