Drawer Block from Lundia, 1960s

Lundia Original Drawer Block, 2 wide by 3 high, different drawer heights, installed upside-down. made to slot into place (and sit on a shelf) in the Lundia Original Laboratory Cabinet; “high end” craftsmanship, half blind dovetails front and full dovetails back of drawers; blond, varnished pine, all solid wood; drawer frames can be turned upside down to reverse the distribution of shallow and deep drawers; eminently sensible design, very practical, modular interchangeable parts, this is an optional addition to Lundia’s shelving system.

Lundia was based in Sweden but also had a factory in the Netherlands. Lundia was created in 1949, when the Swedish designer Harald Lundqvist managed to make the Dutch furniture makers Heinen and Colebrander enthusiastic about his shelving units and storage systems, based on his patented wood-tenon connection. In the same year, production of Lundia’s flexible cabinet system was started in Varsseveld in the Achterhoek region. Lundia will later grow into one of the largest producers of wooden furniture in the Netherlands.
