This impressive Japanese tsubo jar originates from Tokoname, one of Japan's oldest and most renowned ceramic regions.

The jar was traditionally used during tea ceremonies for storing water or dried tea leaves.

Dimensions: Height 49 cm, diameter 34 cm.

The jar features a robust, slightly tapered shape with a narrow, slightly raised neck. The texture of the pottery is rough and organic, with a deep brown-black base covered in a subtle white ash glaze. This glaze has been applied unevenly, creating a beautifully weathered and vibrant pattern reminiscent of traditional wood-fired ceramics.

Notable are the horizontal and vertical incised grooves around the top of the jar, which create a rhythmic and handcrafted decorative effect. Additionally, there are some visible metal fillings, likely old Japanese repairs, adding to the unique and authentic appearance of this piece.
